Selah Counselling - Time to Pause and Reflect
Addictive behaviours are often used to cope when we become overwhelmed and there seems no other way to manage life. Change, even when we recognize it is necessary, can be challenging and takes hard work. Individual counselling can help you to change, heal and grow as a person.
Whether it is your own addiction or someone else’s, we utilize an eclectic approach to give you an individual experience tailored to your needs. We use CBT, DBT, and EMDR to address the addictive behaviours and the underlying trauma, grief and emotions that contribute to the addiction.
Individual counselling can open opportunities to:
- Explore personal concerns
- Learn effective coping skills
- Make healthy lifestyle choices
- Maintain balance and personal growth
Addiction does not just impact the individual but affects the whole family, and particularly the spouse/partner of the addict. Therefore, recovery is most effective when both partners are on board, working together to find solutions. It is not about trying to change the other person – change can only be successful at our own choice and effort – but it is about understanding each other and supporting each other to change. We welcome couples to learn and explore together to improve their relationship and family life.
Utilizing Gottman Couples Therapy and Congruence Couple Therapy, you will learn to master recovery together and strengthen your relationship. Sessions are recommended for 80 minutes in length to allow time for both partner's to share together.
- Build communication skills
- Help resolve conflicts
- Deepen understanding for each partner
- Allow both partners to work on the relationship
In times of turmoil, Christians turn to their faith and for many, it is important to know your counsellor understands your faith and promotes Christian values.
Selah Counselling is here to allow you to pause and reflect on your faith, values and strengths from a Christian worldview. Whether your concern is a spiritual conflict or you desire a Christian that understands mental health to share similar values and beliefs, Selah will work with you to meet your needs.
Christian counselling can help:
- Build your faith and turn to God in your crisis
- Affirm your Christian perspective and values
- Utilize prayer and invite God into the session and healing
- Use Biblical teaching to support your faith and life choices
